"Sitting in a Room"

The Open Practice Committee in the Department of Visual Arts is pleased to invite Rachel Harrison to the University of Chicago to deliver this year’s Deborah Goodman Davis and Gerald Davis Lecture. Harrison will discuss "Sitting in a Room", her 2022 solo exhibition at the Astrup Fearnley in Oslo, Norway, as well as other things.

Rachel Harrison (b. 1966) graduated from Wesleyan University in 1989 and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She makes sculpture, drawings and photographs which stem from her experience of things in the world. A recent solo exhibition at the Astrup Fearnley Museet (2022-23) followed a mid-career survey at the Whitney Museum of American Art (2019-20). Harrison’s work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions and catalogs and is represented in major public collections worldwide.

Established in 2018, through the generosity of Deborah Goodman Davis, the Deborah Goodman Davis and Gerald Davis Lecture Series brings vibrant voices to the University of Chicago’s Department of Visual Arts and the greater university community.
