The Department of Visual Arts manages a range of university electronic mailing lists used to share relevant news, events, and updates pertaining to the life of the department, its students, alumni and faculty, and the arts at the University of Chicago.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts mailing list (visual-arts@lists.uchicago.edu) serves to inform any individual interested in visual arts adjacent events at the University of Chicago. Announcements are shared by the Department of Visual Arts and from UChicago Arts partners including the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, the Smart Museum of Art, the Neubauer Collegium, the Gray Center, and The Renaissance Society, among various others. Type of announcements forwarded include public lectures, student workshops, art exhibition openings, ARTV course listings, and other related news and activities.
Students and campus partners wishing to promote an event (for example: an on-campus exhibition opening OR a visual arts related student workshop) should send their announcement directly to visual-arts@lists.uchicago.edu for circulation. This is a moderated list, so once approved, the message will be distributed. If you have an event that you would like to go out to a targeted audience within the Department of Visual Arts community (MFA students, Majors and Minors, Alumni, Faculty) please send your message directly to dova@uchicago.edu for review and support in distributing it to the most appropriate listserv.
DoVA Alumni
The DoVA Alumni mailing list (dovaalumni@lists.uchicago.edu) functions as a way for current and past students and faculty to share their upcoming exhibitions, performances, public programs and events with the DoVA alumni network. Members of this community wishing to promote a happening to our alumni network should send their announcements directly to dova@uchicago.edu or a staff member for further circulation. Please include what it is, when it is, where it is taking place, alumni name and graduation year in the email. Any attached image(s) should be less than 1 megabyte.
Alumni news and announcements are also featured on the department website under the News section.
DoVA Opportunities
The purpose of the DoVA Opportunities mailing list (dovaopportunities@lists.uchicago.edu) is to share with past students any upcoming job openings, application calls for exhibitions, residencies, grants, fellowships, and other professional opportunities. Anyone wishing to share an upcoming opportunity on this listserv should send it directly to dova@uchicago.edu or a current staff member for further circulation.
Open Practice Committee (OPC)
The OPC mailing list (opc@lists.uchicago.edu) is dedicated to sharing programming news and individual event announcements hosted by the Open Practice Committee (OPC), the Department of Visual Arts’ public lecture series featuring invited artists, critics, art historians, and curators. In general, events hosted by the OPC are free and open to the public and take place Monday evenings at the Logan Center for the Arts. For more information about a particular event, additional assistance attending, or to subscribe please contact dova@uchicago.edu directly.
DoVA Undergrads
The DoVA Undergrads mailing list (dova-undergrads@lists.uchicago.edu) serves to communicate to Visual Arts Majors and Minors any relevant information pertaining to the major and minor, ARTV courses, Studio Track news, call-for-students, upcoming deadlines, info sessions, social events, and other tidbits of departmental news. Students and campus partners wishing to promote an event or send a call for students (for example: an on-campus exhibition opening OR seeking students interested in an arts related internship) should send their announcement directly to dova-majors@lists.uchicago.edu for circulation. Once approved, it will be distributed.
All incoming students who have declared as a Visual Arts Major or Minor are automatically subscribed to the DoVA Undergrads listserv used by the department.
