The Department of Visual Arts manages a range of university electronic mailing lists used to share news, events, and updates relevant to the department, its students, alumni, and faculty, and the arts at the University of Chicago.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts mailing list (visual-arts@lists.uchicago.edu) keeps anyone interested in visual arts–adjacent events at the University of Chicago informed. Announcements are shared by the Department of Visual Arts and UChicago Arts partners including the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, the Smart Museum of Art, the Neubauer Collegium, the Gray Center, and the Renaissance Society, among others. Announcements include public lectures, student workshops, art exhibition openings, ARTV course listings, and other related news and events.
Students and campus partners wishing to promote an event — such as an on-campus exhibition opening or a visual arts–related student workshop — should send their announcement directly to visual-arts@lists.uchicago.edu for circulation. This is a moderated list; once approved, the message will be distributed. To reach a targeted audience within the DoVA community — such as MFA students, majors and minors, alumni, or faculty — please send your message directly to dova@uchicago.edu for review and help distributing it to the most appropriate listserv.
DoVA Alumni
The DoVA Alumni mailing list (dovaalumni@lists.uchicago.edu) allows current and past students and faculty to share upcoming exhibitions, performances, public programs, and events with the DoVA alumni network. Members of this community wishing to promote an event to the alumni network should send announcements directly to dova@uchicago.edu or a staff member for further circulation. Please include the event name, date, location, and the alumni member's name and graduation year. Any attached images should be under 1 MB.
Alumni news and announcements are also featured on the department website under the News section.
DoVA Opportunities
The DoVA Opportunities mailing list (dovaopportunities@lists.uchicago.edu) shares job openings, calls for exhibitions, residencies, grants, fellowships, and other professional opportunities with current and past students. Anyone wishing to share an opportunity on this listserv should send it directly to dova@uchicago.edu or a staff member for further circulation.
Open Practice Committee (OPC)
The OPC mailing list (opc@lists.uchicago.edu) is dedicated to sharing programming news and event announcements from the Open Practice Committee (OPC), the Department of Visual Arts' public lecture series featuring invited artists, critics, art historians, and curators. OPC events are generally free, open to the public, and held on Monday evenings at the Logan Center for the Arts. DoVA Undergrads
The DoVA Undergrads mailing list (dova-undergrads@lists.uchicago.edu) communicates relevant information to Visual Arts majors and minors, including updates about the major and minor, ARTV courses, Studio Track news, calls for students, upcoming deadlines, info sessions, social events, and other departmental news. Students and campus partners wishing to promote an event or send a call for students — such as an on-campus exhibition opening or a call for students interested in an arts-related internship — should send their announcement directly to dova-majors@lists.uchicago.edu for circulation. Once approved, it will be distributed.
All students who declare as a Visual Arts major or minor are automatically subscribed to this listserv.
