Gabrielle Sanson’s practice tethers autobiography and art historical reference in a drive to map points where memory, normalisation, and hindsight intersect. Her recent paintings and sculptures animate social life and objects of the domestic milieu in working from personal experience outward to a body of cultural and social issues. Her ongoing practice concerns include economies of labour, care, the distances placed between people, and the correlation between the home, the mind, and the studio.

Sanson received her MFA from The University of Chicago in 2020 and her BFA from the University of Cape Town in 2016. She was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa.
