David is a painter and teacher living in Chicago with roots in Jersey City, New York, and Cairo. His work deals with time, history, and the archive. He engages with past and current pivotal events and uses a formal language of mark-making in order to make sense of their ramifications and emotional weight. Through sourcing social media, museum archives, and historical documents, he utilizes figuration and abstraction in order to question assumptions of seeing, knowing, and remembering.
He received his Master's of Fine Arts from The University of Chicago in 2024 and his Bachelor's of Fine Art from The Cooper Union in 2020.
