In conjunction with the exhibition Beyond Boundaries: Three Decades of Contemporary Chinese Art at the Smart, the Center for the Art of East Asia (CAEA) and the Open Practice Committee present a panel conversation with Lu Yang alongside Xin Wang (Curatorial Director, PACE Gallery), Dr. Leslie Kay (Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience, The University of Chicago), and Rodica-Livia Monnet (Full Professor, Université de Montréal).
About Lu Yang: Working across video, gaming technologies, animation, and installation, Lu Yang explores questions of gender, biology, neuroscience, and religion through visual languages drawn from digital culture and Japanese manga. Recent solo exhibitions include: MUDEC, Milan; FACT, Liverpool; Oi! Street Art Space, Hong Kong; Kunsthalle Basel; Vellum LA, Los Angeles; Zabludowicz Collection, London; PalaisPopulaire, Berlin; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; Freespace, Hong Kong; Panetteria Atomica, Rome; Jane Lombard Gallery, New York; COMA Gallery, Sydney; M WOODS, Beijing; and Société, Berlin. His work has been included in group shows at MEET, Milan; Rubin Museum of Art, New York; Zeppelin Museum, Friedrichshafen; Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; Centre Pompidou-Metz; Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin; and the 59th Venice Biennale.
