Mexico: Near and Far, a la distancia

Winter Quarter, 2022
Logan Center for the Arts, University of Chicago & CDMX, México
Graduate Research & Travel Seminar

"For our students at the University of Chicago, Mexico: Near and Far, a la distancia, a seminar and research trip, was an amazing opportunity to develop relationships, dialogue, and exchange with artists, curators, thinkers and makers within Mexico. In some ways, its proximity both so near, disobviated this region for such research within our department. It was with an increased awareness and exposure to our southern neighbors through the brilliant visiting artist programming facilitated by Zespo, our coordinator of this program within our department, that we have all become ever more aware of the vitality and importance of Mexico’s culture. The opportunity to teach the nine week seminar, and then travel for two weeks with our graduate students enabled a growing and ongoing conversation that we look forward to in the years ahead." - Laura Letinsky, Artist and Professor, Visual Arts
