Website Design and Development
Geof Oppenheimer, faculty representative, coordinated the redesign of the DoVA website. The design team of Sonia Yoon and Michele Kruegel designed, developed, and produced this site. Peter Thorson, University of Chicago, oversaw the request for Server Side Includes to work with .HTML extensions, and provided additional assistance with the development of this site. The site was launched in September 2008.

Typography
Times New Roman and Arial were selected for use on the DoVA website. Both web safe fonts are typefaces designed for legibility at smaller point sizes.
Technical
Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and TextMate were used to design and hand-code this site. The site's live calendars were built using software from Trumba, customized by Carl S. Nash, Director of Events, specifically for DoVA's unique content needs. The site is authored using structural XHTML, and complies with the 1.0 transitional web standards as set by the W3C. This web site validates as CSS level 2. The site will be maintained using Adobe Dreamweaver and standard hand-coding programs.
Search
The search mechanism on the DoVA's site was built using Google Coop, which allowed us to customize content inclusion criteria and direct users to more relevant search refinements. Peter Thorson, University of Chicago, provided the code.
Web Standards
In order to make the site as accessible, flexible and sustainable as possible, its pages have been coded to validate to XHTML 1.0 Transitional + CSS 1.2 and be in substantial compliance with WAI Level 1, Priority 1-3 and Section 508 accessibility guidelines.
