|Description||A public talk with Amalia Pica as part of the Department of Visual Arts' Open Practice Committee. |
Amalia Pica’s wide-ranging practice includes sculpture, photography, drawing, film, installation, and performance. The works often invite the viewer to reflect on the construction, effectiveness, and the performative nature of thought and speech. Pica's work sometimes takes the form of temporary interventions into public space. Pica studied sculpture at ENBAPP in Buenos Aires and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. She is currently working towards a forthcoming solo exhibition at The Power Plant, Toronto. Recent exhibitions of note include solo exhibitions at Kunstverein Freiburg, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the List Visual Arts Center MIT Cambridge, the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, and Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today at South London Gallery that toured from the Guggenheim. Pica currently lives and works in London and Mexico City.
Presented by the Department of Visual Arts, Open Practice Committee, and Lit & Luz Festival 2017.
